To close the commemorative events of the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, the Somme Departmental Council, in partnership with France Bleu Picardie, the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional d'Amiens and Amiens Métropole, held on 8th November a concert and performance in tribute to the millions of men who died during the Great War, especially those who died in the Somme in 1916.

This unique event was entitled Spectacle pour la Paix and included music by Edward Elgar, André Caplet and Maurice Ravel.

Spectacle pour la Paix

Inspired by the national flowers of remembrance - the poppy for the British and Commonwealth countries, the cornflower for the French and the forget-me-not for the Germans - the 'Association Picarde des Parcs et Jardins' created the "Rose Somme 2016" for the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. In celebration of its first anniversary, the Rose Somme 2016 is now in full bloom at the Elysée Palace.
