The reconstruction of Victoria School in Villers-Bretonneux began just after the war in 1923. This precious school was a gift from the children of Victoria, Australia, to the children of Villers-Bretonneux as proof of their love and good-will towards France. Twelve hundred Australian soldiers, the fathers and brothers of these children, had given their lives for the heroic recapture of the town in April 1918.
Two Pennies is a children's book that tells the story of the school's reconstruction. Come and meet the author, Vicki Bennett, for the book launch on Saturday 22 August, at 1pm, in the school playground.
