Être une femme en 14-18 - Being a Woman in 14-18

Être une femme en 14-18 - Being a Woman in 14-18

From Saturday 7 June 2014 - 09h00 to Wednesday 6 August 2014 - 17h00

Women, already working in coal mines and weaving factories since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, found themselves at the heart of the action in towns and villages behind the battle-lines during the First World War.  Woman led their own war: from factories to the fields, in hospitals, to the rear of the battlefields and also in the heart of towns and cities: constructing tramlines, delivering post, comforting through letter writing…
They were a part of both the war effort and changing ideas: it was the era of tomboys and suffragettes; women began to gain more freedom and have liberated ideas. This exhibition invites you to discover their vast journey.
