On 21 April 2018, Manfred von Richthofen, a flying ace of the Great War, set off from the airfield at Cappy, in pursuit of a British aircraft. He soon found himself above Allied lines in the vicinity of Vaux-sur-Somme. Hit in the chest by a bullet, he managed to land at Vaux-sur-Somme before dying of his wounds. He was buried the next day by the Australians with full military honours at Bertangles.
